Purple heart awarded for traumatic brain injury
On July 5, 2011, S. Vaughan Wilson III, was awarded his purple heart for a traumatic brain injury received in 2005 while serving with 173rd Airborne in Afghanistan. As more is learned about traumatic brain injuries and how they can severely injure a servicemember, the United States Army has adopted modified criteria for purple heart qualifications.

Mr. Williams is a Wounded Warrior Peer Support Specialist with the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program. He earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Healthcare Management from Park University, a Masters of Arts Degree in Management from Regent University, and Graduate Certificates in Federal Mediation from George Mason University and Project Management from Villanova University, Mr. Williams completed a 24 year US Navy career as a member of the Navy Medicine Team with service in the Gulf War and Operation Enduring Freedom.
