“The vision of the Bob Woodruff Foundation is to provide resources and to support injured service members, veterans and their families -- building a movement to empower communities nationwide to take action to
successfully reintegrate our nation’s injured heroes—especially those who have sustained the
Hidden Injuries of War—back into their communities so they may thrive physically, psychologically, socially and economically”. The award-winning television reporter Bob Woodruff sustained serious injuries while covering the Iraq war in 2006. The Stand Up For Heroes (SUFH) event benefits the Bob Woodruff Foundation. On June 16
th, 2011, over 70 wounded warriors were invited to the inaugural SUFH event in DC. Ten warriors were present from the Virginia WW Program. Thanks to Shannon Maxwell of
SemperMax and Ashley Bunce of
Remind.org for the invitation and partnership honoring some of Virginia’s Wounded Warriors. In attendance was the Secretary of Defense, Honorable Bob Gates, Secretary Shinseki of the VA, Chairman of the JCS, Admiral Mullen, and General Chiarelli, the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army. The entertainment consisted of the music group “Train” and comedian John Stewart. For these wounded warriors, a night to remember.
