Purple heart awarded for traumatic brain injury
On July 5, 2011, S. Vaughan Wilson III, was awarded his purple heart for a traumatic brain injury received in 2005 while serving with 173rd Airborne in Afghanistan. As more is learned about traumatic brain injuries and how they can severely injure a servicemember, the United States Army has adopted modified criteria for purple heart qualifications.
Support group just for Women
In an ongoing effort to expand its offerings in Frederickburg, the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program has started a support group just for women.

H&R Block (“HRB”) is a partner with various military branches and offers a FREE Income Tax Course (ITC) for Military Spouses and Wounded Warriors. Military spouses and Wounded Warriors are great candidates because they typically have a good work ethic and have experience with military life situations.
DOL Releases Guide for Providing Women Veterans Experiencing Homelessness with Trauma-informed Care
WASHINGTON — Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis today released a new online publication, "Trauma-Informed Care for Women Veterans Experiencing Homelessness: A Guide for Service Providers." Available on the website of the U.S. Department of Labor's Women's Bureau at http://www.dol.gov/wb/trauma/, the guide explains the unique experiences and needs of women veterans, and provides organizational self-assessment tools to aid service providers, such as social workers and community service organizations, that assist this population.
