Purple heart awarded for traumatic brain injury

On July 5, 2011, S. Vaughan Wilson III, was awarded his purple heart for a traumatic brain injury received in 2005 while serving with 173rd Airborne in Afghanistan. As more is learned about traumatic brain injuries and how they can severely injure a servicemember, the United States Army has adopted modified criteria for purple heart qualifications.

Support group just for Women

DOL Releases Guide for Providing Women Veterans Experiencing Homelessness with Trauma-informed Care

WASHINGTON — Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis today released a new online publication, "Trauma-Informed Care for Women Veterans Experiencing Homelessness: A Guide for Service Providers." Available on the website of the U.S. Department of Labor's Women's Bureau at http://www.dol.gov/wb/trauma/, the guide explains the unique experiences and needs of women veterans, and provides organizational self-assessment tools to aid service providers, such as social workers and community service organizations, that assist this population.

I am in the process of petitioning for my purple heart for my TBI. This is the third attempt, but this time I think the result will be positive. The Army ahs said i is changing the guidlines and procedures to accomdate the new dimension and dynamic of TBI injuries due to IEDs. I will update as I go through the process. So others will have a example and anecdotal experience refernece if they have to go through the same process.
