Purple Heart awarded to SGT “Doc” Wilson under new Army guidelines for traumatic brain injuries

On July 5th, SGT Samuel “Doc” Wilson III was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in Iraq in 2005. The presentation was made by COL McGuire who was his Battalion Commander in Afghanistan. The ceremony was conducted at the Fredericksburg National Guard Armory with his family, friends and fellow veterans in attendance. Staff members of the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program were instrumental in assisting SGT Wilson obtain the award. SGT Wilson comes from a family with a long history of military service to our country.
